Home For almost 30 years now the Ian B Richardson boat-building company has been producing traditionally designed, hand-built wooden boats of all types. The boats are crafted using traditional methods which have stood the test of time and are as relevant today as they were in the days of the Vikings. Based in Stromness in the Orkney Islands, this small family boatyard is dedicated to promoting and continuing the traditions of wooden boat building. The resurgence of the Orkney Yole – a design unique to the area – is in no small part due to Ian Richardson who now specialises in building them. Richardsons can produce all types of wooden boats though and Ian will be glad to respond to ideas and commissions.
