How long
does it normally take to build a boat? This depends on many factors – the size and complexity
of the design, fittings, special requirements etc. And this will be
arrived at as we discuss your needs. Of course we may have a project
in progress and we will of course give you an honest answer based
on time needed to complete this as well as your own project.
Will I get a set of drawings of my finished
boat?
This is not normally how we work. The traditional approach is to
draw up frames etc. on the floor of the workshop and work from those.
However, it may be possible to have a set of drawings prepared if
this is important to you.
How do I know these traditional
designs will stand my local wind conditions?
Scottish traditional boat designs and Orkney designs in particular
have been proved in some of the toughest sailing conditions around.
The North of Scotland has its share of rough weather conditions.
Good sailors soon get a feel for these seamanlike vessels and you
will quickly learn what the capabilities of your boat are.
How much will it cost? Again there are many factors to take into account. However
we always quote a figure after preliminary discussion with you.
We will honour initial quotes provided the specification remains
the same throughout. Of course it sometimes happens that a customer
wants a change or an addition as the project develops – we
can often accommodate such changes but of course there may be cost
implications (again we can generally give a quote before the work
is started).
